Remembering 9/11: Guilford Fire Department Pays Tribute at New Memorial
Guilford, CT– On a cloudy humid morning, the Guilford Fire Department was privileged to join hands with the Guilford American Legion Post 48, local police, military, and fellow fire department personnel, along with the public, to pay heartfelt tribute to those affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The commemoration took place at the newly unveiled 9/11 Memorial at the Guilford Harbor.
Honoring Heroes and Remembrance
The Guilford Fire Department proudly displayed a very large American flag from our ladder truck, its stars and stripes waving majestically against the backdrop of the Guilford Harbor. As the public sat in front of the portable Guilford stage to hear the stories of brave service men and women, we all shared stories of heroism and personal reflections on how that fateful day left an indelible mark on our lives and the nation as a whole. Our First Selectman, Matt Hoey, was also in attendance and gave a speech as well.
A New Memorial for Guilford
The highlight of the day was the sight of the 9/11 Memorial, a tribute that will forever stand in the heart of Guilford Harbor. The memorial is a symbol of our community's unwavering support for those who serve and a poignant reminder of the resilience that emerged from one of the darkest chapters in American history.
The monument stands at the end of the path by the docks, standing 2 feet in height on a perfectly cut granite stone with a bronze plaque titled Tribute To Freedom. As seen in the photos, the plaque signifies the dedication to those who responded that day as well after that faithful day.
Community Unity
The Guilford Fire Department would like to extend its deepest gratitude to all who attended the ceremony and participated in this touching tribute. Together, we remember, honor, and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001, and the incredible strength and unity that followed.
The 9/11 Memorial at Guilford Harbor serves as a testament to our commitment to never forget and to always stand together as a community. It is a place for all to find solace, remember, and pay tribute to the heroes of that fateful day.
