Guilford Professional Firefighter's Recognized
Today, Guilford Professional Firefighters were presented with unit citations from Yale New Haven Health for their efforts on a medical call that occurred in front of The Dollar Store. On November 27, 2022 Rescue 1 and Medic 2 were dispatched for a report of an 83-year-old female with severe chest pain located in front of The Dollar Store in the Big Y parking lot. Upon arrival Firefighter / Paramedic Jed Morrissey began patient care and initiated a critical assessment of the patient's status. Firefighter / Paramedic John Planas and Firefighter / EMT Larry Riley soon after arrived to take over patient care. A secondary assessment performed by Firefighter / Paramedic Planas yielded a decision to transport the patient to Yale New Haven's Cardiac Cathe Lab for more definitive care. It was discovered that the patient suffered a 100 % blockage in one of her main coronary arteries. The patient since then has made a full recovery and has been discharged from the hospital with a clean bill of health. If it were not for the quick actions and proper assessment made by Guilford Professional Firefighters, this incident may have turned out differently.
